The Charity Ball organized by the Foundation for Development of the PMMH-RI will take place on the last Saturday of the carnival. This is the sixth edition of the event. We are meeting on February 22 at 7 p.m. at the Vienna House Andel’s Hotel.
The Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital in Łódź is a recognized and leading institution in Poland in the field of obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. It is a centre with the highest level of reference, providing comprehensive, superior quality medical care; starting from pregnancy, through the new-born period and childhood, to gynaecological diseases – including menopause and postmenopausal age.
Every year, we hospitalize almost 50,000 patients. Most of them require not only specialized medical care, but also the most modern equipment, the latest medicines, the best conditions of care and stay.
We are organizing this unusual event for the sixth time to meet the expectations of our patients and to support them. It is a carnival ball with dances, performances, delicious food. For years, we have been meeting with friends who support us. That is why the venture has an excellent, family-like atmosphere.
Because the Bal is a charity project, auctions are a very important part of it. It has become a tradition that we put items offered by famous people on auction: e.g. jewellery donated by the presidential couple, Prime Minister Beata Szydło’s brooch, Marcin Gortat’s T-shirt or Andrzej Sapkowski’s autographed books. But the most popular are the artistic works created by PMMH-RI patients. Some are sold for astronomical amounts.
Until now, the money obtained (approx. PLN 1 million in total) was allocated to the purchase of medical equipment for cardiologists, paediatric surgeons, ophthalmologists, ENT specialists and radiologists. Since Polish Mother’s has been undergoing reconstruction for six years, the needs are still huge. It is worth recalling that in 2020 the renovation and expansion of the Hospital Emergency Ward and a hospital pharmacy, is coming to an end. We are also planning to renew the Gastroenterology, Nephrology and Paediatric Operating Department.
But the hospital is not just walls and equipment. That is why this year we intend to support our patients. Many of them are amazing people, with fantastic passions, talents and very far-fetched aspirations. We would like to fund scholarships that will make their dreams come true.
