A huge investment has been completed at the Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital – Research Institute (PMMH-RI) in Łódź. Thanks to EU funds and the support of the Ministry of Health, we have completed the task “Establishment of a Paediatric Trauma Center and the expansion and renovation of the Hospital Emergency Department at the Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital – Research Institute in Łódź, along with the reconstruction of the helipad and the purchase of medical equipment for the Department’s needs”.
We have been rebuilding the Institute, for several years. But before the patient reaches the clinic, he/she has to go through the emergency room. Annually, 20 thousand children.
– We wanted them to remember the first contact with the hospital as good as possible – says prof. Maciej Banach, President of the PMMH-RI. – That is why we decided to create a Hospital Emergency Ward of the 21st century.
The investment started over two years ago – in June 2018. In that time, we had done a gigantic job.
Thanks to the investment, the B6 building, where the emergency room had been located, has undergone a major renovation. A hospital emergency department, divided into 8 zones, was established there:
- The zone of medical segregation, registration and admissions
- Resuscitation and treatment zone
- Initial intensive care zone
- Immediate therapy zone
- Consultation zone
- The zone of paediatric emergency medical teams stationing
- The zone of the administrative and economic base.
The interior of the Ward has been designed and made in accordance with the latest standards, to be as friendly as possible for small patients. There are pictures of animals on the walls. The colours of the walls correspond to the character of a given zone. For example, the resuscitation and treatment part has been painted red, and the registration is blue.
The most modern helipad in the macroregion has been built above the entrance to the pavilion. Thanks to its location on the roof, it is possible to transport the patient directly from the helicopter to the hospital ward.
As a part of the investment, we bought medical equipment for PLN 4,707,727.61. The Ward received, among others, a critical parameters analyser, anaesthesia equipment, defibrillators, and operating tables.
The project “Establishment of a Paediatric Trauma Center and the expansion and renovation of the Hospital Emergency Department at the Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital – Research Institute in Łódź, along with the reconstruction of the helipad and the purchase of medical equipment for the Department’s needs” was implemented under Measure 9.1 – Medical rescue infrastructure, Priority axis IX – Strengthening the strategic healthcare infrastructure of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Program 2014-2020.
