Dr. Maciej Banach – is a Full Professor of Cardiology, President of Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital – Research Institute (PMMH-RI) (since February 2014); from October 2010 to February 2012 he was an Undersecretary of State at Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He is a Head of Department of Hypertension at Medical University of Lodz and a Member of the Presidium of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Health. He is a Visiting Professor at University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB,USA) and University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Victor Babes” Timisoara, Romania. Prof. Banach is an author of over 300 publications (citations 3052 by Web of Science Core Collection, 3788 by SCOPUS and 5340 by Google Scholar, H-index= 27 [WoS], 31 [SCOPUS] and 37 [i10-index: 148] by Google Scholar) as well as 31 books in the field of lipidology, cardiology, hypertension and nephrology. He is a fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), European Society of Cardiology (FESC), National Lipid Association (FNLA), American Society of Angiology (FASA) and Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH). Prof. Banach is the founder (2012) of an international group of experts specializing at analysis in the field of lipidology and hypertension – Lipid and Blood Pressure Meta-analysis Collaboration (LBPMC) Group. From 2015 he is a Member of the EuropeanAtherosclerosis Society(EAS). Since August 2011 Prof. Banach is a Chairman of Polish Lipid Association (PoLA) and Lodz Chapter of Polish Society of Hypertension (from January 2009). He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Archives of Medical Science (IF=2.030) and Assistant Editor as well as a Member of the Scientific Council more than 50 international journals including BMC Medicine, Journal of Hypertension, International Urology and Nephrology, Lipids in Health and Disease, Scientific Reports, Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy and Angiology. He has won many awards i.a. the Foundation Scholarship of a weekly “Polityka” (2006); START Program of the Foundation for Polish Science (2008) and awards from the Minister of Health for a series of scientific research (2009, 2011); Super talent Winner in Medicine (2012); winner of the special award Success of the Year in Health Care (2013). Since 2015 the only Pole – a Member of The European Commission’s Scientific Panel for Health (SPH).
